Mayor Bruce Harrell Statement on Upcoming Mayor’s Office Personnel Changes

Seattle – Today, Mayor Bruce Harrell announced changes to his organizational structure, which will become effective by September 1, 2023.

Senior Deputy Mayor Monisha Harrell will depart the Harrell Administration and will collaboratively transition her portfolio to other members of Mayor Harrell’s Executive Team; Executive General Manager Adiam Emery and Director of Strategic Initiatives Tim Burgess will assume the title of Deputy Mayor, respectively; and Special Projects Director Andrew Myerberg will fill a new role as Chief Innovation Officer, joining Mayor Harrell’s Executive Team.

“Senior Deputy Mayor Monisha Harrell has been a phenomenal member of our team and a leader for the City of Seattle – laying a critical foundation to improve public safety, respond to a changing pandemic and support public health, implement emergency management functions, and strengthen our valued relationships with labor partners,” said Mayor Bruce Harrell. “The entire city is a beneficiary of SDM Harrell’s courage, tenacity, and professional and lived experience, which has presented itself in new and bold ideas to address the unprecedented challenges we face. Her efforts are reflected in lower crime rates, lower COVID-19 case rates, and a positive trajectory for Seattle where every neighbor can play a part in improving our city. The perspective gleaned from her former role as Deputy Federal Monitor and her understanding of police accountability has been an important factor as the City works to achieve compliance with the Consent Decree. I am personally thankful for SDM Harrell’s public service and look forward to seeing what she will accomplish next for our city and state. Going forward, our Executive Team and Cabinet will not rest as we continue our pursuit of ambitious policy, transformational change, and a better Seattle for all.”

“Working for the City of Seattle and the Harrell Administration has been one of the greatest opportunities of my life,” said Senior Deputy Mayor Monisha Harrell. “I could not have asked for a better opportunity to serve the people and the city I love. Mayor Harrell is an outstanding leader, and has assembled a strong team that is much bigger than the sum of its parts. It has been an honor to serve as Senior Deputy Mayor, and I look forward to continuing service in the future that comes next.”
