Seattle – Today, Mayor Bruce Harrell made the following statement:
“Instead of working with Democrats to prevent shutdown and protect the American people, President Trump and Congressional Republicans are inflicting more pain to working families across the nation. Residents of Seattle rely on the federal government for essential benefits and services that should not be subject to political games.
“While we see chaos coming out of the other Washington, we are focused on building resilience at home. That’s why my proposed budget for 2026 includes $27.6 million to safeguard essential services threatened by the Trump administration’s funding cuts – including backfilling shelter and housing vouchers, meal programs, and rental assistance.
“At a time that we need government to work for the American people, we call on the President and Congress to do better. We are thankful to have Senators like Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell fighting for Seattleites, and we urge Congress to find resolution as soon as possible.”
