Today, our Seattle Mariners are playing in the American League Championship Series for the first time in 24 years. It’s a day that fans, players, and the franchise have been dreaming of for decades. Seattle fans are known for making noise and as over 47,000 people cheered on the Mariners at T-Mobile Park on Friday night over 15 innings, they literally made the ground shake.
I am calling on our entire community to show their support for our championship series bound Mariners every day the remain in the playoffs – wear your Mariners gear and do your part to “seize the moment.” Whether that means hanging a sign in your window, high fiving a stranger wearing a jersey, or giving back to our community, this is a time to remember we are all in this together.
This Mariners team is reminding us that sports are – at their best – about more than just athletics. They’re about teamwork, about hope, about belief and connection in something bigger than ourselves.
I hope you’ll join me in rooting for our Mariners and making our fandom heard whether they’re playing here, in Toronto, and all the way to the World Series.
